CBD for Pets: Safety Considerations
CBD is generally well tolerated in pets across a wide range of doses. When side effects occur, they are usually tied to poor formulation... not the CBD itself.
Quality control is the real issue with most pet products. Many are underdosed, inconsistent, or made with ingredients that aren’t appropriate for animals.
Dogs and cats process certain ingredients differently than people. Some additives that are safe for humans can be harmful to pets, even in small amounts.
Every product in this collection is:
- Made with pet-safe, human-grade ingredients
- Built with minimal, functional formulas
- Dosed in ranges supported by research and real-world use
- Verified to the same standard as our human products

THC and Pets Explained
Pets are significantly more sensitive to THC, and even small amounts can cause agitation or anxiety. That’s why we only carry products tested to be THC-free.
The “entourage effect” is often discussed, but there is little evidence that THC itself is necessary for most pet use cases. We believe your pets can benefit from the entourage effect by combining other cannabinoids like CBG, CBC and CBN with CBD.

Pet CBD in Idaho
There has been confusion around pet CBD in Idaho due to how hemp is regulated in animal products.
The Idaho State Department of Agriculture prohibits hemp in animal feed and has indicated that hemp-derived ingredients may be considered “adulterants” in animal products under current regulatory frameworks. This classification reflects a regulatory position that is not grounded in the current scientific evidence surrounding CBD use in animals.
At the same time, Idaho does not have a clearly defined pathway for regulating CBD products marketed as animal remedies or supplements.
In practice, THC-free products formulated specifically for animals are commonly sold and used in Idaho. All Herbal Edge pet products are independently tested to confirm non-detectable THC and are made specifically for pets—not repurposed human products.
We only carry products that meet Idaho’s strict THC requirements and align with current enforcement realities. This is what allows us to offer compliant pet CBD products with home delivery throughout Idaho.

How to Use CBD for Pets
While treats are the most convenient option many people prefer tinctures because they are more cost effective. If you are using a tincture be aware of a few things:
Do not add CBD supplements to water. The oil will not mix with the water and the dose will be inconsistent. Instead drop the oil into your pet’s food if they eat all of their food in one sitting. If you free feed your pet, put the oil on a treat instead so you know they are getting it all in one sitting.
CBD works best when used consistently, not just in large one-time doses.
For occasional stress (fireworks, travel, etc.)
- Start 2–3 days before the event
- Increase dose on the day of the event
For daily support
- Use a consistent daily dose
- Adjust based on response
Where to start
A common starting range is ~1–2 mg per lb of body weight per day. Variation in pet dosing is often greater than in people, so adjustment over time is expected.

Different Pets, Different Responses
All mammals have an endocannabinoid system, but they don’t respond the same way. Dosing, absorption, and formulation differences matter depending on the animal.
- Dogs: Similar absorption to humans, but sensitive to additives
- Cats: Lower absorption and more sensitive to certain oils
- Horses: Require significantly higher doses due to size and low absorption
