New to CBD Tinctures?

Tinctures offer more flexibility than gummies or capsules, but the number of different formulas can be overwhelming. Here are a few resources to help you decide what works best for you.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

There is no universal CBD dose, and more isn't always better. In our experience, most customers take between 50 and 300 mg per day, with many clustering around 100 mg.

Our dosing guide explains how CBD has been studied, what we've learned from real-world use, and a simple approach for finding a meaningful dose for you.

Tinctures or Gummies?

Both deliver CBD orally, but there are three major differences.

  1. Tinctures have a simple, short ingredient list. Gummies tend to contain more flavorings, sweeteners, colors, and other ingredients.
  2. Tinctures offer extremely flexible dosing. Our tinctures come with graduated droppers, making it easy to adjust the amount you take. Cutting gummies into smaller pieces is less convenient and less precise.
  3. Tinctures tend to offer much more CBD per serving. Many CBD gummies contain around 20–40 mg per gummy, while our tinctures range from 50–200 mg per dropper.

The main thing to consider is which one you're actually most likely to use. The best tincture or gummy in the world does you no good sitting on the shelf. Pick the one that best fits your routine.

What Do All These Cannabinoids Do?

CBG — Often chosen by customers for daytime use and commonly found in formulas intended for focus, discomfort, or gut support.

CBC — An especially uplifting cannabinoid commonly included in daytime formulas and used for mood support.

CBN — A relaxing cannabinoid most commonly found in evening and nighttime formulas.

What Does THC-Free Actually Mean?

“THC-free” isn't as straightforward as it sounds. Laboratory tests aren't infinitely precise, and even THC-free CBD products can carry some risk when drug testing is a concern.

All products carried by Herbal Edge are independently tested, with additional confirmatory testing performed at a lab of our choosing so you can better understand what you're getting.

Common Questions

What is a CBD tincture?

A CBD tincture is a liquid CBD product typically made by combining a concentrated hemp extract with a carrier oil. Tinctures are taken using a measured dropper, usually by placing the oil under the tongue and then swallowing.

Tinctures aren't designed to be applied to the skin, although the oil itself won't harm your skin. For topical use, we recommend a CBD-infused lotion or salve.

Is CBD oil the same as a CBD tincture?

In everyday use, the terms CBD oil, CBD tincture, and CBD drops are often used interchangeably. Most products sold today as CBD tinctures are actually oil-based formulas containing CBD or other cannabinoids in a carrier oil such as MCT oil.

Traditionally, a tincture specifically referred to an alcohol-based extract, but that distinction is rarely made when shopping for CBD.

How do you take a CBD tincture?

Measure your desired serving with the dropper, place the oil in your mouth, and swallow. You can also hold it under your tongue briefly before swallowing.

Tinctures can be added to food, although taking them this way may change how quickly the cannabinoids are absorbed.

We don't recommend adding oil-based tinctures to drinks because the oil usually won't mix evenly with the liquid.

How long does a CBD tincture take to work?

How quickly you notice a CBD tincture varies by person, dose, formula, and how it's taken. Some effects may be noticed within an hour, while others can be more subtle or become apparent with consistent use.

Our dosing guide has more information about evaluating your response and finding a meaningful dose for you.

How long do the effects of a CBD tincture last?

There isn't a single duration that applies to everyone. Dose, metabolism, food intake, frequency of use, and the other cannabinoids in the formula can all affect how long the experience lasts.

Many people divide their total daily amount into one or two servings rather than trying to get an entire day's use from a single dose.
